The Low-Down on Heart Rate Monitors: How a Gadget Will Help Your Workout
|
|
By Amy J. Duncan, ACE-certified Personal Trainer
What Is It and How Much?
A heart rate monitor comes with two parts. A chest strap
worn around the rib cage that picks up your heart rate.
This strap sends a wireless signal to the second part, a
wrist watch that displays your heart rate. If you are going
to the gym, the watch portion can be left at home as
most of the cardiovascular equipment picks up the
wireless signal sent from the chest strap. Just press
the “Activate Heart Rate” button on the console of your
elliptical, treadmill, or bike. Monitors can be purchased
with lots of extras but you can pick one up for about 60$
that will carry the basic features that you will need. (This
is a great gift for family and friends. It is a great way to
show you support them on their path to becoming more
active.)
